Fowey Maritime Centre is an RYA recognised centre and a member of the Marine Leisure Association. We operate throught the year and enjoy a relaxed but safe environment where learning is fun.
If living on board, cruising the coast or sailing offshore appeals to you try one of our sail cruising courses. Cruising yachts have accommodation and cooking facilities on board and offer a degree of comfort whilst spending time afloat. How far you venture is up to you. Whether you simply want to be a useful crew member, or skipper an ocean going yacht there is a course for you.
If you want to venture along the coast to unfamiliar ports, or further afield you will need to understand the theory behind navigation and other seamanship skills such as meteorology and collision avoidance. Our shorebased courses teach from the basics right through to ocean-going navigation techniques.
Powerboating is for those of you wishing to drive small open powerboats such as RIBs (rigid inflatable boats), sports boats and small launches. These boats are generally powered by an outboard engine, do not normally have accommodation on board, and so are not intended for extended cruises. They may be used for short coastal or inland trips, fishing, safety cover for other watersports, waterskiing or as a support boat for diving.
Our series of one-day courses help equip skippers and crew to deal with emergencies and everyday skills required afloat. Courses include diesel engine maintenance, first aid, marine radio, sea survival, radar and the two-day RYA/ISAF Offshore Safety Course for offshore racing and cruising.
