Fowey Maritime Centre is an RYA recognized centre and a family business. We operate throughout the year and enjoy a relaxed but safe environment where learning is fun.
The Family
The centres principal is David Pugh-Jones with many years sailing experience ranging from Cruising the Med and Caribbean to competing in the Fastnet Race, Cowes Week and Cork Week and many other competitive events. Starting his sailing life in Cadets at West Kirby Sailing Club at the age of 8 David has progressed to a YachtMaster Cruising Instructor and an Advanced Powerboat Instructor. He is a member of RORC and is a trustee and instructor for Challenge Wales a former BT Challange yacht which is now run as a childrens outward bound charity www.challengewales.org
David is ably assisted by Wife Hilary who also started life at West Kirby Sailing Club, Hilary is a Day Skipper and has sailed extensively on the family Sigma 38 as well as the Carribbean and Med. Once our move is complete Hil will run the office for us.
The family connection continues through to James (21) who is a marine engineer & day skipper and has delivered boats across the atlantic and worked running a 72’ catamaran in the Med last summer. His most challenging delivery was from Egypt to Thailiand via the Red Sea onboard a 50’ Pajot catamaran that only had intermittent engine power, very entertaining in the Straits of Hormuz !
Finally we have Tom (19) who is at University but also sails as well, Tom is an RYA Dinghy Instructor and looks forward to helping the “youth” master the intracasies of both sailing a power boating as he is taking his PB Instructors course this year.
The whole family look forward to welcoming you to Fowey Maritime Centre.
